(AP) 1/12/05 – The question on everyone’s mind in 2005 is: Can two time champion Bob Hayes repeat the performance of a lifetime that we saw in 2004 in Arizona? Bob was quoted in a recent interview saying, “This year you’ll see the first back-to-back winner.” Time will tell.
Meanwhile brother Tom, also a two time Harvest Classic winner, was quoted as saying, “That win last year was a bigger fluke than the tail on a blue whale. The only way you’ll see the winner’s circle this year is with a good pair of binoculars.” Seems like some tough love from brother Tom, but there is no love when it comes to the Hayes brothers and the Harvest classic. After hearing of brother Tom’s press release, middle brother Don, also a two time winner, called a press conference where he went on the attack stating the following:
“Tom – Snow may suck but I know one thing for sure…..hurricanes blow!!! It amazes me that you would live in hurricane alley just so you can pad your driving distance stat a few times a year. I intentionally requested the later date this year to give myself an extra week to get my game in shape. Rather than scrape it around in 73 or 74, I thought the extra time would ensure that I brought it in at level or a few under each round. The smart money has the trophy back in my possession this year.”
Just as things began to spin out of control, reasonable brother Jim decided to try to put an end to the banter and called his own press conference. Below are some excerpts from said event:
“I don’t understand this trash talk so early and right before Xmas when we should be spreading love and goodwill. Where’s the love, bros? As usual, I’m flying under the radar screen this year. It’s no fluke that I came off a summer that even Vijay couldn’t match. Despite broken ribs this Fall, I’m ready to bring the Harvest prize back to my international headquarters. So, talk all you want boys. I’ll see you on the first tee on March 3rd. You better find your game face between now and then.”
2005 should be an exciting year! My money is on a Vern/Jeff two way tie for first. Stay tuned to Hayesvision.com for your up to the minute Harvest Classic updates!
