(AP) February 28, 2008 – The first round of the 2008 Harvest classic is in the books and Vern Shukoski is off to a commanding lead. Vern chipped in for birdie on hole #1 at the South Course and there was no stopping him. Vern shot 41 on the front nine as he putted with Tiger like precision. Vern finished the back nine with a 42 shooting 83 for the round. Vern refused to speak with the press following his first round stating that he needed to remain focused as he headed to strategize Friday’s rounds.
The low round of the day belonged to Tom Hayes who shot a 75. Tom had two birdies on #8 and #11. Tom who is a two time winner of the Harvest Classic informed the press that he is not intimidated by Vern’s 1 point lead.
The next best round of the day belonged to Don Hayes who shot a 78. Don played a steady round birding 17 on his way into the clubhouse.
After the first round the field remains extremely tight and it is still anyone’s tournament to win. The field will play 36 holes on Friday and will wrap up the tournament on Saturday morning with 18 holes. Stay tuned to Hayesvision.com for all of your updates.
