We started our day visiting with Jon and Kim while Hunter took a two hour morning nap. This was perfect because it gave us a chance to enjoy the incredible bagel sandwich from a local establishment. You can’t really put into words how amazing this sandwich tastes but just trust me… it’s amazing. It’s an everything bagel with egg, ham, and cheese, but apparently the secret is the special “Taylor ham” or “Jersey pork roll” that can best be described as mystery meat…. but I like to call it heaven. After our delicious breakfast and a little more playtime with Rudy and Hunter, we were on our way to Boston.
On the way Emily texted her mother (yes, Kee has discovered the ability to text Emily at a moment’s notice) to request some help in searching for a dining establishment on our way to Boston. Because she used to be a resident of Connecticut, she provided the low down on the area. She suggested a fun little restaurant in Westport called the Tavern on Main. We plugged in the address and headed that way. The lunch and downtown area were well worth the diversion from our route. If Emily was still doing food reviews this would have received 4 spoons.
After our delicious lunch and foot tour of Westport was completed, we decided to continue the historic Kee tour and we continued by car to Stratford, CT. We drove around the city and pointed out all of her old stomping grounds to which Hunter replied “hah hah” still recalling his adventures with Rudy. We drove by the house where she grew up as well as some of the places that she worked. We were looking for the headsets that accompany such tours, but I believe they had all been given out for the day.
After Stratford we eyed our destination time which was 4:43 pm. Because we wanted to avoid rush hour we hit the road and focused on the goal, Boston, MA. Along the way we saw this great deal on gas, $4.24, so we just had to get some. We are in the process of teaching Hunter some card tricks that he can do on the streets of Boston to make up some of this gas money. The kid has to pay his way somehow.
We arrived to the Double Tree in Boston, checked in and got settled in our room. The view from our room was another great one. The view of the Charles River and the Boston skyline is truly amazing as can be seen to the right. Because we were done driving and there were not restaurants within walking distance, we decided the room service was the way to go again tonight. As we waited for our food we laid out the plan for tomorrow. There seems to be quite a bit to see so stayed tuned for some photos tomorrow.
Before we called it a night Emily decided to play the role of Annie Liebowitz and take some provocative photos of Hunter. Okay, they weren’t actually inappropriate and most were pretty cute. Hunter ate his 15th jelly sandwich of the trip and his two french fries (this process took an hour and a half start to finish) and was ready for bed. Another great day on the road and we are looking forward to the many fun days ahead. For those of you still reading, thank you for your dedication!
