Today was our first full day in Appleton. After getting one of our better night’s sleep, we had a full day of laying around the house ahead of us. I spent the better part of the morning and early afternoon getting a round of golf in with my Dad, Erik Hietpas, and one my Dad’s friends, Chris Martin. It was an absolutely perfect day for golf as we made our way to Buttes Des Mortes. My Dad was fresh off his club championship victory so I thought he would go 4 or 5 under for the day. Erik and I decided to take on my Dad and Chris in one of the most highly publicized matches of the summer. Erik had told me that he had shot in the 70’s over his last 5 or 6 rounds so I thought this would be a relatively fair match up. Well, I am not sure if Erik was playing with left handed clubs today, but neither one of us looked like we had ever played this game before. My Dad and Chris were all over us like a fart in a spacesuit. Erik and I’s combined 97 at the turn was hardly the mark of champions. Needless to say we lost, for all of you still on the edge of your seat. It was a fantastic day for golf though, so we didn’t mind losing. While we were playing golf Emily and my Mom were out shopping, believe it or not. They went to this store called New York and Company, and I think at this point we own about 5% of the Company with all of the clothes she has purchased from there. I think she thought the clothes were like shares of stock or something.
After finishing golf we headed back to the Casa de Hayes for more golf in front of the TV, the PGA Championship. It was our first time to just sit and chill during the trip, and it was much appreciated. Since the Toney family had not arrived yet we thought that this would be the perfect night to go out to dinner, which is something that we don’t often do in Appleton, due to the fact that my Mother is such a great cook (I would call this sucking up but I am not sure she is going to actually read this). We had heard rave reviews about this restaurant called Fusion in downtown Appleton. We decided to check it out being that my parents had never been there before. Well I am sure Emily will cover this in much greater detail in her food review, but let’s just say I would have preferred to be on Fear Factor than eat that stuff again. All kidding aside this place was pretty weak. They had what seemed to be a cool idea in that the front of the restaurant was a garage door that opened onto College Avenue. What this really meant was there was a huge neon sign inviting every fly within a 10 mile radius to come and set up camp for a feast to remember. I forgot my fogger at home or I would have brought it in and cleaned house. Well, I don’t really have a fogger, but it sounded good.
After dinner we decided to go to Dairy Queen for some frosty treats, and then were treated to a drive down memory lane with my parents by all the houses they and I had lived in throughout the years. It was neat seeing them all again and hearing their stories. As the ice cream melted, we made our way back to the house. Another great day! Stay tuned for tomorrow!
