Those of you who know Emily well know that no event in Emily’s life where she is the focus should only last one day. This is why she coined the phrase “Birthday Fest” and now we have “Mother’s Day Fest”. What this means for me is that not only is she the center of attention for one day but we are now stretching this to two days, which is still less than the seven days of “Birthday Fest”. I am surprised that she has not converted to Judaism just for the “Hanukkah Fest”.
We started the day by having Emily open her gift from Hunter and I which was a photo book from Hunter to Mom. The book was titled Why I love you Mommy and went through all the reaons Hunter loves and appreciates his Mom. From Emily’s reaction she seemed to like it quite a bit. She viewed it a few times and shed some tears in the process. Hunter is a good book builder.
Emily decided that she would like to share the day with Grandma and Poppop Colonel and enjoy a late breakfast at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Emily loves this place for breakfast, and because Colonel was working on Sunday, this was a great excuse for us all to get together. Before we departed, Emily’s parents stopped by to drop off a really neat present that Grandma and Hunter had worked on over the previous weeks. I guess I am assuming at this point that Colonel didn’t help with this project, but I am sure he added his floral expertise to the project in some fashion. Hunter and Grandma created this really cool flower display made out of color cut-outs of Hunter’s hands. You can see the picture to the left. It was really quite impressive. Watch out Martha!
After we admired the Mother’s Day gifts we hit the road to the Polynesian Resort. This has come to be one of Hunter’s favorite spots as well because he knows that these trips are often ended with a trip on the monorail. We arrived at the Polynesian about 10:55 which gave us a few minutes to capture a few photos at my favorite spot near the resort entrance. We captured some great photos which you can see below.
After the photo shoot we headed to the Kona Cafe and had a delicious breakfast. If you have not eaten there I would highly recommend the scrambled eggs and the Pineapple Macadamia Pancakes. We devoured our food, shared some stories, and followed Hunter’s lead out of the restaurant. Those of you following along from home can probably guess where we headed next, THE MONORAIL! We took a trip all the way around and ended up back at the Polynesian where we shared a dole whip and took in the sights and sounds of the resort.
After our delicious dole whip the Colonel recommended that we go on a boat ride which we all agreed would be fun. The trip was fun and Hunter had a perfect view of the monorail track which kept his index finger very busy pointing them all out to us. We ended up getting off the boat at the Grand Floridian which is where we took some great photos. We ended the morning with one last monorail ride from the Grand back to the Poly. We headed home from there and Hunter was crashed in the car seat before we hit the highway. It was a fun morning doing “nothing” which is sometimes our favorite thing to do at Disney World.
