For those of you who know me well you might know that my birthday is on March 10th. Because nothing cool really happens during the week, Emily decided to plan some fun activities for the weekend because I will be away at the Harvest Classic next weekend. We all arose early on Saturday, got ready and headed out for a fun breakfast for what we hoped were authentic Jersey bagel sandwiches. I guess a bit of a back-story is necessary.
Emily and I have visited Jon Tettambel (and Kim Tettambel) in New Jersey over the past 5 years. Whenever we visited Jon would always go out first thing on the first morning of our arrival and pick up these amazing bagel sandwiches. If you have not had them, you need to make a trip to Jersey just to get these! Ever since the road trip when we had them on two separate occasions, we have been on a quest to either find the ingredients to make them ourselves or better yet, find a place that can make them the way we remember. Emily was going to go through the trouble of mail ordering me some Jersey bagels when she found a Jersey bagel restaurant in Winter Garden, FL (about a 30 min drive). We thought we needed to give this place a try and see what we could find.
After crossing the great city of Orlando, we arrived at Jesery Shore Cafe & Deli at about 9:15 am. We had the entire place to ourself and we were greeted by the two very nice owners of the restuarant. The gentleman was a native Jesery resident and he and his wife knew just what we were looking for as we described our desired sandwich in painstaking detail. Since Hunter didn’t seem too interested in a bagel sandwich, we ordered him a delicious waffel. The sandwiches, while not the original, were exactly what we were looking for. The food and service were top notch and got our day off to a fantastic start.
After our delicious breakfast we headed to downtown Winter Garden, which we don’t often frequent, to check out the Saturday morning farmers market. Emily had deemed the day fisheye fun day so I was only allowed to take my fisheye lens for my camera. I thought this was a really fun idea and you will see some interesting shots below. We walked around the market and Hunter took us to see the power generator a couple of times as well as following the horsy doggie (just a really big dog) around the market. We purchased a few produce items and made our way back to the car with the splendid background of Hunter screaming.
We thought this would be a good time to go for a drive and give him a chance to take a nap. Great plan, poor execution. Hunter decided that he was not in the mood for sleeping. After driving for about 30 minutes we ended up around Disney and decided to go and walk around Epcot because it was such a beautiful day. This we did and enjoyed it very much. We made our lap around the World Showcase and as we were passing by Japan Hunter said “go see train” as we were headed toward Germany. Those of you who have been to Epcot know that there is a train set up just outside Germany that Hunter has seen a few times. We were just amazed that although you could not see the train, Hunter knew where he was and that it was just ahead on the right. Crazy.
We completed our trip around Epcot and headed to the car to head home. As expected Hunter crashed on the way home.
We ended the night we a delicious dinner at Ruth Chris Steakhouse thanks to a generous gift from our friend J.R. The meal was great and it was a relaxing event thanks to Grandma and Poppop and their gracious babysitting offer. All-in-all it was a great, relaxing day.
