Thanks to the kindness of our husbands, my friend Jen and I got to enjoy a night out in a restaurant with no kids’ menu or crayons visible on the table. Jen suggested the Bento Cafe, because she scored a $25 restaurant.com gift certificate for only $3! The only caveat was that we had to have a bill of $35, but that was no problem for us… we like to eat. It’s what bonds us.
We ordered three sushi rolls, soup, and of course, wine. The sushi was very good and our sushi eating technique was a perfect match (least favorite to favorite, lather, rinse, repeat). The hot and sour soup was also very good, my litmus test for any Asian restaurant. The only weird thing we found was that you order at the counter at this restaurant, then find your own table and your food is brought out. For normal sushi prices (and an 18% auto gratuity when using the gift certificate), you should at least get a waitress! It was an odd combination of self service and fanciness.
After dinner, we decided we had not fully embraced our freedom, so we drove around looking for a non-intimidating bar where we could have another drink and be baby-free. After a lengthy search, we ended up at Press 101. We ordered bellinis and a cheese tray (like I said, we’re hungry girls). Bellinis were great, but the cheese was totally stale. It was definitely not the Disney Magic!
After Press, we had our sights set on Coldstone, where we had learned they now have ice cream cupcakes. Knowing my obsession with cupcakes and Jen’s with ice cream, you can see how this was a must have. We raced into Coldstone 15 minutes before closing and procured our half dozen cupcakes. As you can see from the pictures, we thoroughly enjoyed them (and even left a few for the boys).
