Today we were lucky to be visited by my sister-in-law and four nieces and nephews. They are visiting Florida for spring break and drove up to spend the day with us. Since all but two of the group of us had birthdays in the last three months, the day became a birthday fest of sorts. Before they arrived, Hunter helped me make cupcakes for the celebration. Check out the “clown’s mouth” he got from licking the spatula! Red velvet is messy but delicious!
Note to Sprinkles cupcakes: HOW do you make them so tidy???? I had flecks of cake all throughout my icing, and I cursed your name several times.
Right after lunch at Grandma’s, the kids couldn’t wait any longer, so we decided it was time for presents. Alex, Kaylie, PopPop, Aunty Diane, and Hunter all had birthday gifts to open, while Taylor and Sean had Christmas gifts from Uncle Drew and Aunty Fran to keep them happy! Hunter didn’t know which way to turn… he thought all the presents were for him. He thinks every day should be his birthday… wonder where he gets that?!?
After presents, it was time for Hunter to recuperate with a nap, so Kaylie and I headed out for a little pick me up. That’s right, I took her to Starbucks. She was a little skeptical at first, but I think I may have converted her.
For dinner, we concocted some homemade pizzas which didn’t stand a chance and were quickly devoure. Since it was PopPop’s actual birthday, we serenaded him right after dinner and then dove into the cupcakes and ice cream. Incidentally, the next night we had leftover cupcakes, and when we served Hunter’s to him, he started to sing, “Happy birthday to Hunter, happy Birthday to Hunter…” True story. He really does think it is HIS birthday EVERY day.
Hunter had such a fun day playing with his cousins. He got a little more familiar with the concept of sharing, though we are still working on it. It is so nice having the bigger kids around because we adults can actually sit and chat for a few minutes! We had a really fun day and we can’t wait to do it again soon!
