I thoroughly enjoyed getting a good night’s sleep after our active day celebrating Hunter’s twelfth birthday. The morning started out chilly, but was forecast to be the warmest day of our Hilton Head Island visit. Great day for a visit to Coligny Beach! Hunter and Sawyer arose earlier than normal, eager to start their days building LEGOs. Hunter wanted to complete the Harry Potter and the Great Hall set that he started the night prior. Sawyer got to work building the Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack. Sawyer was also excited that today was going to be his “yes day”. They also managed to sneak in bites of breakfast between their building sessions.
Bike Ride to The Beach
Today was Emily’s parents’ check-out day, so Colonel and I took one final ride before he returned his bike. We left the resort around 8:30 a.m. on our normal ride out to Disney’s Beach House. Due to the tide schedule, our timing had us arriving at high tide. We parked our bikes and took a short stroll across the beach to the water. After a few photos and a quick break we were back on our bikes headed back to the resort. We made a quick stop at the General Store to pick up one of their famous breakfast sandwiches. Colonel, having already eaten pizza for breakfast, got a drink and I got a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit. I highly recommend a stop at the General Store if you are in the area! If you go, be sure to head to the back corner of the store where they have the hot food.
Skillets Cafe – Lunch at Coligny Plaza
After we returned to the resort, Colonel went to help Kee pack their room. The plan was to drive to Coligny Plaza for some lunch before Emily’s folks departed. We helped them get the car packed with all of their stuff, and some of ours. Before departing we stopped at our favorite resort tree for some last photos.
The drive to Coligny Plaza normally takes 15 minutes but I managed to make it 25 with my amazing navigational skills. Kee was craving a BLT sandwich for her last meal so Emily found one online at Skillets Cafe. Kee and I both ordered the BLT sandwich, Emily got a French Dip, and Colonel chose the chipped beef and toast. Hunter was excited to order the Kitchen Sink breakfast, and Sawyer ordered his standard noodles and red sauce. While Sawyer was eating he felt his front tooth wiggle its last wiggle. A quick visit to the bathroom with Emily and he came back one tooth lighter.
Coligny Beach Fun
Following lunch we gave our hugs to Kee and Colonel and wished them safe travels for their return to Orlando. We continued our exploration of Coligny Plaza bopping in and out of a few of the stores. I found a quiet area outside to take a few photos while Em and the boys looked for treasures. After we had our fill of useless beach merchandise, we headed to Coligny Beach.
Having been to Hilton Head Island numerous times, this was our first visit to Coligny Beach area. The area is beautiful with a quaint walkway from the street to the beach. There were a lot of folks sitting in chairs people watching and enjoying the afternoon. Although the weather was at the high of the day, 68 degrees, the wind off the water made it still a bit chilly. We brought our bubble wands to the beach and had fun blowing bubbles and splashing in the water. The boys had a blast running through the water and being silly. We didn’t last long and we were ready to head back to the plaza.
We spotted a toy store on our walk back to our car. After exploring the store the boys determined that they would rather save their money than purchase a toy. Our last stop at Coligny Plaza was the Ice Cream Cone for a dessert treat. We enjoyed our cones at the store before getting back in the car to return to the resort.
Afternoon Relaxing at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort
Back at the resort Emily hung out with the boys in the room while I met up with Connie, who works at the resort. Since I support this resort as part of my work duties, I enjoyed walking with Connie and meeting the team. It was nice to put faces with the voices I talk with over the phone. Em took the boys around the resort and had some fun taking photos! After my tour Em and the boys met me at Big Murggie’s Den for some cookies and lemonade. Hunter and Sawyer continued their ongoing pool battle with a couple of games. Sawyer, of course, added to his photo collection by getting a few more shots on the lobby photo machine.
The plan was to heat up leftovers and eat dinner in the room. Emily and Hunter went to Kroger to pick up a few items to round out our buffet. Sawyer and I were more than happy to take a chill break in the room. Hunter picked up some fried chicken for dinner while Emily and I enjoyed our leftover steak and chicken from fajitas. We watched Marquette (who was favored) lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
The last activity of the evening was a rousing game of Disney Apples to Apples at the kitchen table. We pulled out the beds in the family room and popped in Ant Man & the Wasp on DVD. Watching a movie before bed has become a new tradition at Hilton Head. It wasn’t our favorite Marvel movie but it got us closer to seeing all of the films.
Although tomorrow is our last day on the island, we are looking forward to more adventures and activities around Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.
