Often times I find myself amazed at how I don’t take simple opportunities to do the things I want to do. In my current job I have an office that I work out of which is near Disney Springs. Recently, in my new assignment, I have an office in Celebration that I work out of one day per week. I have been working there for almost six months now. Ever since my first week working there I said, I wanted to take half of my lunch break and walk around the beautiful lake in downtown Celebration. For whatever reason, I never made time to drive the five minutes to park and walk around the lake. Today I thought, why in the world haven’t you accomplished this seemingly easy task, why not do it today? So I finished my Chipotle salad and left myself enough time for a stroll.
Getting out of my head during the work day is not an easy task for me. In my quest to be more present in life, I told myself to take in the scenery during the walk and look for fun photo opportunities, which are abound in Celebration, FL. As I walked the backside of the lake there were flowers growing on the waterfront. I tried to pick one that looked semi-healthy and had a picturesque background. Standing there in the grass, trying to get the perfect angle was half the fun. I am sure the passerby’s thought I was a little nuts, but I am OK with that. I enjoyed the remainder of the walk, taking the wooded bridges that interconnected the different lakes and ponds around the growing city. It had been quite a while since I had seen many of these areas.
I am glad I took the time out of the day for the experience. Taking the photo reminded me how much I appreciate technology and the fact that we carry a really powerful camera in our pocket at all times. If there is an image or video that needs be captured, nothing is standing in our way of recording the moment. I also took some moments to appreciate Florida in January. Many Floridians take ample opportunity to speak harshly of the Sunshine State in the dreaded summer months, but don’t spend nearly enough time recognizing the amazing weather it provides us in the winter. Although a bit overcast, the weather was perfectly comfortable to be outside in a short-sleeved shirt. And to that I say… thank you Florida!
Thank you for the comment Laura! I am trying to spend more time in the moment these days but I am not always as successful as I want to be. I just checked out your website. Your content and images are really impressive!
This is amazing! As I was riding my bike on my way back from school drop-off, I stopped by one of the lakes to photograph my bicycle in front of the picturesque lake and thought the same thing to myself: people must think I am crazy, getting a close up of my tires 🙂 The entire morning I have been wanting to tell the world to slow down and take a minute to be thankful for what we have. We hustle all day but it is all right here in front of us. It only takes a conscious decision to be happy to watch, listen, and feel the beauty surrounding us!
